These are all attributes that are cultivated through martial arts training. Committing to the process. Making the effort every week to carve out a few hours for your own personal development. To see these improvements in your life, it’s very simple: set your goal to black belt and keep at it until you get there. Simple, simple, simple. I’d be lying though if I told you it’ll be easy! The challenge is what makes it so worthwhile.

Having now earned two black belts (in Brazilian jiu-Jitsu and Judo), I can tell you- it does feel good to receive them. It feels really good! But what is even more important is the transformation that takes place. The person you have to become to reach such a challenging goal. Once you’ve done it, other big goals that used to scare you, don’t seem as scary. Those things you tried to convince yourself you didn’t really want because you thought you could never attain, start to look a lot more attainable.

You can do it! And you don’t have to have the entire journey mapped out. All you have have to do is take the first step and walk through the door!
